Sandwalker

Filed under: Land, Lego — Paul @ 8:39 am

This is a vehicle for transversing the desert (or any other terrain where wheels would just get stuck).

What started it: I hadn’t planned anything when I began this. Like most of my creations, it started with the pilot’s compartment. How can I build a sloping windscreen? – then – What is this going to attach to?

What I like about it: I like this thing a lot. Once I decided on something with legs rather than wheels, I had thought about building more exposed machinery – hoses, gears, rods, etc. But, as I fiddled around with it, I preferred the sleekness of it. Besides, if you’re going to riding around in the sand, would you really want exposed machinery?

What I’m not so fond of: Nothing, really. I like this creation. The windscreen opens, but maybe not as much as I had planned – no, there is nothing I don’t like about this.

Flight Trainer

Filed under: Air, Lego — Paul @ 9:32 am

Here is a jet airplane for training new pilots.

What started it: I began with that clear cockpit piece. I’d used it before, but never with the ability to open it. I started looking at ways to build an opening hatch. At first, I wanted to build a two-level space ship, with the pilot up top, in the transparent hatch, and a ladder leading down to the crew stations below. After several attempts, I couldn’t get what I was looking for. So, I started building a one level, two-person, aircraft. As I was building it, Phillip commented that it looked like something to flight-train pilots. So, that’s what I went for. Everything was built around the hatch.

What I like about it: The last thing I built on this was the landing gear, and I especially like the way that turned out.

What I’m not so fond of: I don’t like this piece much. I spent too much time and effort on trying to get the shape I was after. (That’s not a good sign.) It’s too tall and stubby. There are elements I like about it, which is why I’m posting it, but I don’t consider this a success.
