18 Pounds Of Lego

About

On August 10, 2007, I turned 50, and Phillip surprised me with eighteen pounds of Lego. He had bought them from a friend of his from Neopets. Phillip’s friend had a son who was getting rid of his Lego collection. Originally, the collection was intended for a yard sale. When Phillip heard this, he remembered that before I met him, I had enjoyed building with Lego – mostly Technic sets – so he bought them, and the friend shipped the collection across the country (which is why I know how much it weighed). What I found when I opened my birthday present was a bewildering assortment of pieces – a mishmash of sets, themes, and even some Dulpo pieces mixed in. Worst of all, there were no instructions in the box. I had never built anything out of Lego without instructions. I found some building instructions published online, but no matter what I tried to build, I just didn’t have all the parts the instructions called for. What was I going to do?

Once upon a time, this blog was named “18 Pounds Of Legos”. I have since learned that the plural of Lego is Lego. (It’s too late to change the URL, however.)

“LEGO, the LEGO logo, DUPLO, BIONICLE, MINDSTORMS, the BELVILLE, CLIKITS, KNIGHTS’ KINGDOM and EXO-FORCE logos, the Brick and Knob configurations and the Minifigure are trademarks of the LEGO Group.”

  2. Paul,
I really like your virtual apartment building. I’m interested in building a scaled down version of it. Do you have more detailed plans than the illustration itself provides. (This is the first time that I’ve looked at the Virtual Lego website—so I may be missing plans, if they exist.) Thanks,
    Sam
